On August 9, 2023, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) announced their representation on the U.S. Departments of Energy and Transportation’s Joint Office of Energy and Transportation Electric Vehicle Working Group.
NARUC’s press release states:
According to its official announcement, “the working group was formed by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to make recommendations to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation regarding the development, adoption, and integration of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty electric vehicles into the U.S. transportation and energy systems.”

These leadership dialogues are important because utility regulators are crucial to achieving decarbonization goals. Working together to develop ways to overcome challenges and achieve goals is essential. A couple of objectives of the dialogue include:
Developing relationships among DOE vehicle-grid integration leaders and state utility commissioners from all five NARUC regions
Increasing DOE’s understanding and awareness of utility commissions’ barriers, constraints and opportunities for transportation electrification
