FERC Directs PJM to Make New Rules for Innovation and Consumer Protection

On December 18, 2025, the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission (“FERC”) directed the PJM Interconnection, LLC (“PJM”), formerly known as the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection, to make new rules regarding data centers for Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) and other large loads, finding PJM’s existing tariff insufficient to ensure grid reliability and protect customers.
